LIVING IN EXPECTATION

  • March 17, 2017

Matthew 9:18-26, While He was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before Him and said, ‘My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.’  Jesus got up and went with him, and so did His disciples.   Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind Him and touched the edge of His cloak.   She said to herself, ‘If I only touch His cloak, I will be healed.’  Jesus turned and saw her. ‘Take heart, daughter,’ he said, ‘your faith has healed you.’ And the woman was healed at that moment.   When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes, He said, ‘Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.’  But they laughed at Him.  After the crowd had been put outside, He went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.   News of this spread through all that region.

Today I want to encourage you to live in expectation!! Many of us are living in expectation, but I find that we are living in expectation of what can go wrong instead of what can go right.  Many of us are afraid to step out of our comfort zones and do what God has placed in us to do because we are living in fear, the expectation of what can go wrong.  Instead of thinking of all the things that can go wrong, I want to encourage you to live in the expectation of what can go right.  What if you step out and start the business and you succeed, what if you go for the promotion and you get it, what if you step out of the boat and you walk on water?

In our scripture we see two illustrations of two different people who were living in expectation.  They were living in the expectation that it does not matter what my current situation is if I could only get to Jesus I know it will be alright!  The first account is the synagogue leader whose daughter died, he was dealing with a dead situation but he knew that Jesus was the resurrection!  Can I encourage someone today, who may be dealing with a dead situation, don’t be so quick to pronounce the benediction and eulogize your situation.  Yes, you may have went for “it” and didn’t get “it”, that doesn’t mean it’s not God’s will for you, could it be that God is trying to teach you to press and persevere?  Sometimes we have to press.  Like our second illustration, the woman with the issue of blood.  She had a condition for 12 years, but she was living in the expectation that if I could just get to Jesus I know I will be healed.  You may have to press through some things.  You may have to press through some failures.  Failure is not final!  Some things are not dead, but are asleep.  When Jesus arrived at the synagogue ruler’s house he said, she is not dead, she is just asleep.

Life and death is in the power of the tongue.  You have to declare that some stuff is not dead it’s just asleep.  That dream, that business, that ministry, that idea that God has given you that you can’t seem to get off the ground or doesn’t seem to be producing at the level you thought it would, declare it’s not dead it’s just asleep.  Wake up that dream, that vision, that business, that book, that idea that is asleep on the inside of you.  Don’t be so quick to start planning the funeral.  Jesus said in John 11:25, I am the resurrection and the life. Our God is the resurrection and the life!  He is able to give life where there was no life.  Look at Sarah and Rebekah in the Old Testament.  These women were barren, unable to produce life, but God brought forth life where there was no life.  We serve a God who is able to bring forth in dry and barren places.

If you can’t relate to Sarah or Rebekah, let me give you a brief testimony. My husband and I tried for years to conceive and were unable to conceive.  I went to doctor after doctor like the women with the issue of blood and got no better, but I knew that I served a God who was able!  I was living in the expectation that there was NOTHING my God cannot do!   I know what is impossible with man is possible with Him!  And God performed an Ephesians 3:20 in my life, He did exceedingly and abundantly above all that I could ask or think according the power, the faith that was at work within me.  Where there was no life, God brought forth life.  My daughter is now 10 years old!

It doesn’t matter what your situation is, you may have been like the women with the issue of blood, dealing with that situation for years and you may have done all you can, you prayed, you fasted, you worshipped, you did everything you know to do and the situation has gotten better but only grew worse.  It’s like the more you prayed the worse it got.  Or you may be like the synagogue ruler who is facing a dead situation, whatever you are facing today keep on believing!  Wake up every day and live in expectation that today is the day of your breakthrough, today is the day of your healing, today is the day of your deliverance, today is the day of your manifestation and today is the day of your turn around!
